Pokémon X shiny odds at a glance
Quoted rates apply only under the conditions named here. A better rate changes the probability of each check; it never guarantees a shiny after a fixed number of encounters.
Setup for the recommended method
- Choose a fishing tile that cannot fail because of positioning, and lead with Suction Cups or Sticky Hold.
- Bring enough Poké Balls and a safe catcher; a failed reel, movement, or leaving the area breaks the chain.
- Use the best rod for the target's encounter table, not automatically the Super Rod.
How to shiny hunt in Pokémon X
1. Start the loop
Fish repeatedly from the same tile and reel in every bite on time.
2. Create the next check
Run from or defeat each non-shiny without moving your character.
3. Finish safely
After 20 successful hooks, maintain the chain until the shiny appears and save immediately after catching it.

- A fishing chain tracks successful consecutive hooks, not repeated encounters of one species.
